A while back I wrote about monograms at the Maymont Mansion and have some photos I'd like to share!
"I found some very unique ties to a classic wedding throughout the house. During the 1880s a bride would spend a lot of her time post-wedding creating linens and clothing to bring into her marriage. Often the bride would embroider her initials into the bed sheets, pillows and napkins. I was so excited to stumble upon some amazing examples of this in the Maymont home. They were on the pillows in Mr. Dooley’s late bedroom. These may or may not have been embroidered by the Lady of the House because of the extreme wealth. I also found an engraved hairbrush with a monogram inscribed on its back."
